Chiesa di San Lorenzo (Church of St Lawrence)

Built in 1591, the church dedicated to St Lawrence was extended in 1773.
The façade of the church, its plain appearance enhanced by the cream shade, is sharply cut into three sections, joined together by vertical stone joints.
As you step across the door, you will be greeted into the hushed world of the church, within which you can stroll and look at the spectacle of its late Renaissance half pilasters, Corinthian capitals, finely sculpted plant-shaped motifs.
The church has four chapels, dedicated to St Joseph, to Our Lady of Good Health, to St Vitalia and to the Sacred Heart, respectively. Two altars, dedicated to St Lawrence and to our Lady of the Holy Rosary, can instead be found in the arms of the transept.
As you walk on in your tour, you will bump into other fine examples of religious art, such as a painting of the Virgin Mary, the Saints and the Souls in Purgatory, attributed to Giacomo Altomonte. Most noteworthy is the oldest piece in the church: a bronze bell with the inscription “S.Laurentii ora pro nobis A.D. MCCXX” on it and a portrait of the Saint and the Cross.
