Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo (Church of St Peter)

When in Tuili, you won’t want to miss a tour of the Church of St Peter, an interesting example of a 15th-century building, consecrated on May 7th 1489. The layout and backbone are reminiscent of 15th-century Catalan Gothic architecture. It is an aisleless church with three chapels on each side, all with barrel vaults except the third on the left. The vestry has a rectangular plan, instead. The west façade is overlaid with rows of grey squared ashlars. A square-shaped bell tower sits on the left of the façade.
Its most noteworthy works of art include:
Reredos by the Master of Castelsardo: painted by the Master of Castelsardo, oil on canvas, circa 1500. It is an altarpiece, approximately five metres high with six main panels portraying scenes of Christian History. A Virgin and Child is painted at the bottom centre, a Crucifixion on top. The remaining panels are completed with images of saints and episodes from the life of St Peter. The church has another reredos painted with Pentecostal scenes.
Organ by Mancini: a finely-made pipe organ from the 18th century, enclosed in a wood box painted in eye-catching floral patterns, with two folding doors decorated inside and outside on a red ground. With its seven knob-like stops, it wants to be played only by the most talented musicians and can deliver stunning sounds.
Baptistry, Pulpit and Choir: also built in 1750 -1850.
