The Church of St Dominus in Genuri is a lovely example of a country church fenced in by a row of centuries-old olive trees, fragrant trees that add a charming touch to this building, and home to one of the four monumental olive trees of the municipal area.
The bell gable on the side acts as an architectural counterweight to the façade that, as you can see, leans slightly from the ground.
As the legend goes, the little church was reduced in size at the behest of Mgr. Michele Beltran, Bishop of Ales. The decree of the pastoral visit of 10th March 1641 caused that place of worship to be sized down to achieve a more elegant and well-proportioned appearance.
The narrowing of the space inside does not terribly disrupt the layout. The peculiar sculpted stone altar at the back of the central wall of the church is quite interesting. The altar distinguishes itself for two small Doric columns, a central niche surrounded by finely-cut decorations and the statues of the four Evangelists.
