Parrocchia della Beata Vergine Immacolata (Parish church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin)

In the old Barumini town stands the large dome with the quadrangular bell tower of the Immaculate Conception parish church.
The building dating back to the 16th century, in Catalan Gothic style, is located in front of the palace of the Zapata barons, the noble family from Aragon who probably commissioned the oldest part of the church.
Though reworked over the centuries, the original architectural details have been preserved in the area of the presbytery, in the lierne cross vaults, in the pointed arches and in the cruciform columns. It has a longitudinal architectural layout with three naves and side chapels.
The monumental altar in polychrome marble with volute motifs and pairs of angels, houses in the central niche the white marble statue of the Immaculate Conception and next to it that of San Sebastiano, patron saint of Barumini.
On the back of the altar, the Altarpiece of the Virgin of the Assumption, in carved and gilded wood, houses six tempera paintings on wood, depicting scenes from the life of Jesus and the ancient statue of the Virgin of the Assumption.
Numerous other works of artistic value such as the marble pulpit and the baptismal font, the wooden bas-relief with the twelve apostles and the richly decorated wooden altars.
