The archaeological and conservation area of Sa Fogaia

The archaeological and conservation area of Sa Fogaia is located east of a basalt plateau known as Pranu de Siddi.
Historically, it has been assumed that in the past centuries this area was used for coal mining and that’s why it was named “Sa Fogaia” (from fire).

This charming trail will lead you to explore the widest variety of flora, with about 150 flowers – marked by special wood tags – accessible through a nature trail called “su mori de is erbas” (the trail of herbs).

You will be amazed as you watch the animals that live all over the reserve in their uncontaminated and luxuriant natural habitat, such as birds, mammals and different species of reptiles.

Sheathed in centuries-old holm oaks, a picnic area provided with all the main comforts (toilets, tables and water faucets) also offers you an opportunity to spend the day in contact with the typical natural environment of the reserve: you can enjoy your packed lunch on one of the big tables scattered all around the site or you can use the cooking facilities to prepare your meal.

Diversifying the vibes that coexist in this experience in contact with nature is the Sa Fogaia nuraghe, accessible through a trek that has been dug for the purpose. It is a truly unique nuraghe in terms of layout, as it is shaped like a corridor with three big buildings next to each other, surrounded by other smaller, minor buildings.
