Museo Ornitologico della Sardegna (Ornithological Museum of Sardinia)

Ornithological Museum of Sardinia

The Ornithological Museum of Sardinia is housed in a 19th-century historical building that used to be the Managu hospital.

The one in Siddi is the only ornithological museum in Sardinia, as well as the most comprehensive museum collection of birds on the island.
This exhibition of about three hundred specimens winds through a tour that will pique your curiosity with exciting educational materials you can consult to find out more about the species on display.

The museum’s tour includes video stations with giant screens, PCs and projectors that will allow you also to watch the daily life of the swallows that have built their nests in a typical house in the old centre of Siddi and that are filmed 24 hours a day, without disturbing them, for scientific purposes.

The first room will usher you into the historical context of the building, then your attention will be drawn to the evolutionary history of birds. This is followed by what may be the most fascinating part: the display cases with the many specimens of birds that you can watch in every single anatomical detail.

The upper floor offers a different educational experience, more focussed on the habitats and territories in which such species of birds live, as well as more general information.

The care taken of the visitors’ sensory engagement will make your experience really poignant, giving you an opportunity to look at these quite unique specimens through very different eyes.
