Ex-Capuchin Convent and Church of San Francesco

Ex Capuchin Convent and Church of San Francesco

The former Capuchin Convent dates back, together with the adjacent church dedicated to San Francesco, to around 1600, and today houses a multipurpose cultural centre, a newspaper library and other spaces used for recreational activities.

Over time, the building took on various institutional and social functions: originally a convent structure, it housed the offices of the Magistrate's Court, the Carabinieri Station, the Town Hall and an elementary school, evolving further until the 1960s.

The structure lives suspended between the past and the present, in the coexistence that is as curious as it is wonderful between the Franciscan friars residing in the building and civil society. Approaching young people is, among others, a fundamental maxim for the Convent, which has become a stimulating reference point for the local population in Barumini.
