Chiesa Parrocchiale Santa Barbara (Parish church of St Barbara)

Parish church of St Barbara

Built in 1200 circa, the church had been originally dedicated to St Antiochus and only later named after St Barbara as the patron saint of the village.

Going up the staircase, you are led to the façade of the building, which will wow you with its beautiful harmony of Gothic and late Romanesque style. An extremely high bell-tower will certainly grab your attention, its more modern style standing out above the rest.
As you cross the door, decorated with a splendid bronze bas-relief by Gianni Argiolas, you will finally be led into the church, laid out in a nave and two aisles, spaced out by a rhythmical succession of segmental arches.

The church is home to interesting works of art and other specimens of local crafts. In your personal exploratory journey, you can have a look at the magnificent panel painting of the Crucifixion attributed to painter Antioco Mainas, portraying Jesus, the good thief and the bad thief, the moving crowd and, in the background, the city of Jerusalem: a whirlwind of bright colours that will send you into raptures.

A 1590 stoup and some distinctive, shining Sardinian ecclesiastical silverware, such as the truly unique Crucifix of the church, should not be missed either.
