Centro Culturale Giovanni Lilliu (Giovanni Lilliu Cultural Centre)

Close to Su Nuraxi di Barumini is the Centre for Communication and Promotion of Cultural Heritage "Giovanni Lilliu", which, through permanent and temporary exhibitions, promotes the cultural heritage, history, traditions and craftsmanship of the area.
Dedicated to the figure of Giovanni Lilliu, famous Sardinian archaeologist and paleontologist, who discovered the nuraghe Su Nuraxi, the mission of the Centre is the valorisation, through research and dissemination, of the archaeological heritage as an element of maximum importance and key to the interpretation of the culture of the Marmilla, its history, its natural landscape, of which it offers the evident value of its uniqueness.
The large structure is built on a single level and is characterized by clear references to the forms of Nuragic architecture and its collective spaces, with two symmetrical arms that define a large circular square, open towards the Marmilla landscape and facing towards the old Barumini town.
Of particular interest is the photographic exhibition which documents the excavation campaign of the 1940s and 1950s in the nuraghe Su Nuraxi, its scale reproduction in its original configuration and the exhibition which traces the life and intense and conspicuous activity of Giovanni Lilliu.
Inside there is a library, classrooms for educational workshops, a conference room and a courtyard for the organization of outdoor events.
