Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena (Church of St Mary Magdalene)

The Church of St Mary Magdalene, at the foot of the Marmilla Castle, has a Latin cross plan and an octagonal dome that is visible from the outside as well.
You will notice its bell gable, an architectural feature that can frequently be found in Sardinia. Renaissance in style, the interiors are covered by a barrel vault resting on a circle of bas-relief decorations.
An inventory of the liturgical objects found in the Church suggested that it may have held lots of extremely valuable works of art, such as reredoses, paintings and sculptures.
The church was built in the late 17th century with the devotees’ bequests and the donations of the Zapata family, especially Eleanor.
