The Saffron Mural

Turri - The Saffron Mural

This intriguing mural is the brainchild of three talented artists from Cologne, Germany: John Iven, Ron Vokt and Nicosz Zniejewski.

This work, developed as part of the "LxL" project in partnership with the association "No Arte" of San Sperate, paints a vibrant picture of the everyday life that’s abuzz within the community. And it does it with a magical touch, by embracing all the peculiarities of this land: the bread of Turri, the majestic Barumini nuraghe, an ancient coffeepot standing as a symbol of socialisation and conviviality, and a tender saffron flower bud born in a cot. Embedded in the latter detail is a wish to have more babies as a result of economic recovery, with saffron standing as the emblem of this local renaissance.

The mural is not merely an artistic project, it is also an opportunity for social inclusion and participation: actually, Turri’s residents welcomed these gifted artists warmly and generously and, when they spent time together, the three muralists breathed in the traditions and culture of the people, turning them into a source of inspiration to shape the outstanding work that now catches the eyes of all those who draw near.
