Giants’ Grave of Su Cuaddu 'e Nixìas

The Giants’ Grave with an arched stele is an oft-recurring type of Prehistoric burial in the Central-Northern area of Sardinia, the glaring legacy of the island’s dynamic flow of events.
The name has been inspired by the place in which the Tomb is located, Nixias, and by the hole on the big stele, probably used to tie horses, “Cuaddi” in the Sardinian language.
The burial is made of calcareous marl, a local sedimentary rock, in two different stages of the building process. In addition to the big stele, nearly three metres high, a construction in the rectangular part of the basement has been probably inspired by the stone cist style of tombs – basically a box-like shape.
The excavations unearthed grave goods, including a biconical vase and some chess-like pieces, engraved with dots and lines, both dating from the middle Bronze Age.
