A little village, set amongst natural landscapes, archaeological gems and devotion

Gesturi is a charming village located in the Marmilla region, known for its Nuragic heritage, the imposing Giara plateau and its keen devotion for Fra Nicola.
The Giara is an ancient volcanic plateau, 600 metres above sea level, now a wonderful natural oasis with unique wildlife. Here, you will also find the mysterious cavallino della Giara, an endangered horse breed.
The region is steeped in history, with its over thirty archaeological sites, including the famous proto-nuraghe of Bruncu Madugui. The beauty of the landscape is emphasised by valleys, hills grown with olive groves and vineyards as well as oak and poplar woods. The area is inhabited by a wide variety of animals, including ducks, woodcocks, jays and hares.
Devotion is an important part of life in Gesturi, with six places of worship including the parish church of Santa Teresa d'Avila, the church of St Barbara, Madonna del Rosario (Lady of the Holy Rosary) and more.
The house of Fra Nicola, a Franciscan saint, is a place of pilgrimage and a museum that showcases the peasant lifestyle of the 19th century. Every year, Gesturi celebrates Fra Nicola with two days of festivals and devotions.
