Furtei

Furtei, 09040 (Medio Campidano)

Furtei is a little farmers’ village with a population of 1,600, nestling on the west side of a hill between the Medio Campidano province and the Marmilla region. This place is a treasure-trove of historical monuments, including five nuraghes and many Medieval churches. Not far from there is the long-forgotten ancient village of Nuraxi, with the country church of St Blaise. Every year on Palm Sunday, the Mayor gives the parish priest a palm branch as a symbolic tradition of peace.

A little village, best known for its deeply-felt religious festivals

Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santa Barbara

The main church at Furtei is dedicated to St Barbara and houses religious artworks, including a Crucifixion of Christ. The churches of Santa Maria della Natività (St Mary of the Nativity), St Narcissus, St Sebastian and Sacra Famiglia come to life during the sacred rites, including Holy Week.

Furtei is also famous for its religious festivals, such as the bonfires in honour of Saint Sebastian, the celebrations for Saint Isidore and Saint Blaise, along with Saint Narcissus. The main festival is held the second week of September to celebrate the Birth of the Virgin Mary.

The ancient Is Bangius baths date back to the Roman age and are part of the archaeological heritage of the Marmilla. Region.
