Villamar - Festa della Beata Vergine d’Itria

The Feast of the Madonna D'Itria is organised in the municipality of Villamar by the Committee of Fifty Years. It takes place every year on the third Sunday of August with the pilgrimage from the Parish of San Giovanni Battista towards the small country church dedicated to the Madonna, about 3 km from the town.

The iconic procession accompanies the simulacrum of the B.V. D'Itria with his chariot pulled by a yoke of oxen.

The following Tuesday, at nightfall, a large crowd of devotees welcomes the return of the simulacrum, accompanied by figures on horseback, folk groups, traccas and sonadoris from the church to the Parish.

For four days the town is celebrating: in the main square, Piazza Pratza de Corti, musical and entertainment shows take place.

On Wednesday, as per tradition, a fireworks display takes place to close the celebrations.
