Segariu

Segariu, 09040 (Medio Campidano)

Segariu is a charming farmers’ village in the north west of the Marmilla region, surrounded by the Trexenta hills and run through by the Pardu stream. The village is part of the Associazione delle Città della Terra Cruda, the Association of Rammed-Earth cities, which supports the preservation of the local heritage. Segariu may have taken its name from "S'Ega 'e Riu," which in the Campidanian Sardinian language means "the marshy river valley."

This area thrives on farming and breeding, offering a genuine tourist experience with its natural beauty and local produce. The history of the village dates back to the Palaeolithic Age and through the centuries it has been changed by historical events and has resurged many times over.

The historical vestiges include the parish church of St George, built in several stages, and the country church of St. Anthony of Padua. In addition, Segariu has a unique nuraghe where Prehistory and the Middle Ages combine into a fascinating mix.

Segariu is a heaven for climbers with plenty of routes for beginners and experts alike. On April 24th the village fervently celebrates the Day of St George the Martyr with religious rituals, processions and folklore festivals.
